After supporting clients for 6 years, Marta founded Artemis Counselling to meet the unique needs of individuals with intense emotions and self-critical personalities. At Artemis we challenge your day-to-day routines to reimagine and forge a life that is authentic and joyful. Clients come to us for personalized life optimization: we work hard to get you where you want to be. Partner with our dynamic practitioners to work on feeling better, meeting goals, and uncovering a sense of purpose.

How does starting therapy work?

We suggest doing some research. Take your time to search around the website to learn more about our approach to treatment and to get a feel as to whether our practice would be a good fit for you. Once you have decided to reach out to Marta or another clinician contact our office to move forward.

With all new clients, we offer a free intake consultation and assessment. This is typically 20 to 40 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to ensure we are a good fit. It is helpful if you have thought about your reasons for wanting to attend therapy and have 2-3 goals you can share. We encourage asking questions. We know that for many the first meeting can be nerve-wracking.

Once we confirm that we would like to work together, we would discuss how often to meet. For most clients, this will be once a week. Other clients request twice a week, or every other week. We would then work together to meet your goals at a pace that feels attainable. When you have met your goals and feel that you no longer require therapy, we would work on a transition plan to end our relationship.

What does a session consist of?

As we tailor sessions to client’s specific goals and treatment plans, there is no formula for sessions. However, as a guideline for structure, we normally start sessions with a check-in, followed by active discussion which may collaborative problem-solving, engaging in worksheets, and practising skills. We may also engage in role plays, mindfulness-based activities, and body-focused exercises, like breath work and grounding.

Are your services covered by OHIP?

No, Artemis counselling is not covered by OHIP. We are a private clinic and accept payment through e-transfer, or our booking platform. Many insurance plans also cover our services. Contact your provider to determine what is offered. We are registered social workers, psychotherapists.

Do your emotions dominate your life, sending you on a roller-coaster, with unpredictable highs and lows?

Do you feel like you’re constantly fighting urges and struggling to remain in control?

Do you crave connection and healthy relationships, but find yourself engaging in behaviours that drive others away?

Marta helps clients with extreme emotions and unhealthy coping patterns. In partnership with clients, she teaches skillful ways of regulating emotion, managing distress, and interrupting damaging behaviours.

As a skilled therapist in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Marta teaches practical tools that promote a balanced and healthy life. DBT helps one to live in the moment, cope positively with stress, moderate emotions, and improve relationships. Marta believes that with the right tools, even significantly engrained patterns can change.

In addition to DBT Marta utilizes Schema Therapy, a model which combines aspects of cognitive behaviour therapy psychoanalysis, attachment theory, and emotion-focused therapy. Schema Therapy aims to treat personality disorders that do not always respond to other treatment options, such as BPD.

Marta considers it her honour to watch clients take control over their emotions and live a more meaningful life.
